The Expert Panel held November 8, 2005, provided policy clarification and introduced best practices on the topic of conscious sedation.

The Expert Panel focused on:

• the appropriate use of desensitization techniques
• the use of sedatives to support individuals in obtaining needed assessments and procedures
• improving patient education and understanding of procedures
